Had a good weekend. Thursday night I went to see The Matrix Reloaded. The special effects were incredible, but the movie is not without its faults. The Neo/Trinity sex scene while the orgy in Zion is going on just after “church” let out was unnecessary at best. And while some of the scenes in Zion seem drawn out, the movie mostly makes sense until Neo meets the Architect who speaks his rehersed lines in monotone and begins to confuse the hell out of Neo and the audience. I saw the movie again Friday night. I was able to catch a bit more the second time and it made a bit more sense. If you haven’t seen it yet, do so–it’s worth seeing. And stay after the credits for a sneak peak at the third installment.
Saturday, Stephanie graduated college. We went out to Llewelyn’s to celebrate and then later to Dressel’s. It was both wonderful and sad to have the whole “gang” together again. It made me miss the times when such a gathering was frequent. Why can’t we all be young, foolish youths forever? A silly question, I know.
What a summer it’s going to be. I’m going to Kansas City this weekend. The following weekend my brother, Micah, is graduating high school and I’ll be helping Amy move into her new house. No, we’re not back together. But I can still help her move, right? Seems the least I can do. Next month I’ll hopefully be going camping in the Smoky Mountains with Ryan and a couple weeks later my sister is to be married. And then we’ll cap off the summer with another marriage: Ben and Lori.

“he Neo/Trinity sex scene while the orgy in Zion is going on just after “church” let out was unnecessary at best.”
Alas, this is the very reason why I have not gone to see the movie yet. I am very disappointed with that totally unncessary scene. I guess I’ll have to wait until the movie is shown on TV and hope that our morals have not degraded to the point where we don’t edit anything for TV… Sigh.

For me personally I don’t have a moral issue with the scene–it wasn’t super risque. For me the problem was that it was completely useless and distracted from the rest of the movie. The whole scene didn’t seem to fit with the movie. I’m not sure how they’d edit that for television. Hopefully they’d just cut it out entirely, but I’m not sure how much of the content of that scene is really considered off-limits for public television. On the other hand, you could rent it and just fast forward once you get to the part where everyone starts dancing. The next five minutes or so are completely useless and don’t help advance the plot at all.

It’s certainly not off limits for public television. I’ve seen some crazy stuff on public television.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say the movie should have been called “Matrix: Refunded”, but in a lot of ways it was a disappointment. At the same time, there are some scenes in that movie that are worth paying $8 to see on the big screen.
