Went to watch people play chess in the Loop last night. I don’t play much anymore as I just get frustrated when I play because I’m so bad compared to the others that go to chess club. I enjoy the game very much and that’s why I still go. It’s a lot of fun to watch the stronger players go at it and I usually learn a thing or two. If anyone has any recommendations for a player of about 1400 over the board strength who is in his mid-twenties for improving at chess quickly without requiring 3 hours study time a day, I’m all ears. I just find that no amount of studying has really helped my game. Probably part of that is my lack of organized studying. And I also have other interests. I could see myself putting in about 5 to 10 hours a week studying chess, on average, but that’s about it. I also want to have time to read other things, go out with friends, go on trips, see some movies, you know…have a life.
Went to Kaldi’s last night to do some reading. I’m about 3/4 the way through Perelandra now. I love this book. I wish the floating islands of Perelandra really existed.
Also browsed some of the GUADEC slides. Wish I could have been there.

Nearly 3 years late, but… tactics, tactics, tactics. Seriously. This will bring you to 2000+, at least.
