Adam, Amy, Chris, and I reached the cabin around 8pm Friday. I’m really glad we followed Chris as the dirt and gravel roads in the woods were really off the beaten path and tricky to follow if you don’t know what you’re doing. The cabin was amazing. It had been constructed out of a huge shipping crate and turned into a cabin with siding, windows, wood stove, loft, bunks, and a deck. Friday night we chose to sleep in a tent, however. We spent the evening drinking Rolling Rock, Captain and Coke, talking around the campfire, and enjoying the amazing view of the Stars. Being almost utterly ignorant of which constellations are which, we argued at length about where Orion and the Big and Little Dippers were. After doing a bit of research this morning I think the main constellation we were looking at was Orion. And the Big Dipper is not actually a constellation, but part of Ursa Major.

The little dipper, which I believe was the group of stars I thought looked a bit like a kite is part of Ursa Minor.

And Orion is its own constellation, not part of the Big Dipper.

Constellation List
On Saturday, we ate a breakfast of eggs, potatoes, sausage, coffee, etc. Great way to start the day. We took a hike on one of the trails, took some pictures, and relaxed. Stephanie and Alan arrived about mid-afternoon as did Troy and Jen, and later in the evening Amanda showed up. Aside from doing more drinking and sitting around the fire, after most everyone had gone to bed, Adam, Amy, Amanda, and I did more star gazing, arguing about constellations, and talking philosophy and posing hypothetical questions until about 4:30am. Eventually we went to bed, this time sleeping on the deck of the cabin under the stars.
On Sunday we had a breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, and Irish breakfast tea. We packed up our stuff in the cars, and took another hike on a diferent trail.
I had an amazing weekend. It has been a long time since I have seen that many stars and an even longer time since I’ve been in a place that quiet. Check out the photos I took here

Thanks to everyone for coming out this weekend,
Quite Impressive!! She did better than any of the men that have ever tried to find the place!!!
it was great to see such a turnout!! I too had a great time!! I will admit it’s well off the beaten path, so much so that guy we passed wearing the hockey mask couldn’t even find us, and Michael Meyers was nowhere to be seen!! If you are ever in need of a weekend in the woods, you know where to go!! If you can find it!! We will have to go out again sometime soon!! My apologies to those relying on the directions, they are being updated a bit. My (cowboy) hat goes off to Amanda for displaying the courage and skill to drive off into the middle of nowhere, in the black of night, with those crappy directions and arrive alive!!!

I was very impressed that Amanda made it without having to call, too! I know I would have gotten lost. Great weekend, everyone. I’m definitely up for doing that again.
