I went to see my new doctor today for the first time. It was an amazing difference from my previous experience with doctors. My new doctor is so personable and reassuring. He told me that my case is not all that severe and can be controlled throughout my life. He used the analogy of someone with high blood pressure–the cause may not really be known exactly but it can be controlled through medication. He said that a lot of the stuff you read on the internet about Crohn’s Disease talks about the extreme cases which demand extreme treatments. He then gave me a prescription for a drug which he said will really offer me relief and scheduled an upper-gi and some lab work to check my B12 levels (in Crohn’s patients B12 can be low since the area where B12 is absorbed is inflammed). The contrast is staggering between this reassuring doctor who is telling me, “We’ll get you fixed up with this and this and this” and my last doctor who was stone-faced and monotone and told me I had Crohn’s by sending me a little biopsy result postcard with no other information at all about the disease.

Sounds much better. I’m very glad you’ve got someone who will actually work with you. Keep us informed about how you’re doing.
