Friday night I met up with some friends at McGurk’s. Good Irish music, good ale, good company. Ended up at Syberg’s later in the evening for some karaoke.

I got barely enough sleep for the poker tournament on Saturday. It was a friendly tournament: only $20 to enter and I knew a good number of the 40 people there. I ended up lasting a lot longer than I really expected, making it to the third round (out of four). I’m definitely not upset that I didn’t make it to the final table given that this was my first tournament and the hand in which I was knocked out I felt I played perfectly, going “all-in” with Ace/King suited and being the mathematical favourite to win the hand after the flop. I only lost that hand when someone with pocket fours caught a third four on the river, beating my two-pair. There were quite a few cards that could have landed on the river to give me a better hand (not that I needed it). Jack of clubs would have given me a royal flush, so naturally any club would give me a flush and any jack would give me a straight. A King or a Ace would have given me a full-house. But instead we got a four (not of clubs), the only thing that would give me the losing hand. Oh well. I was getting low on chips at that point and I think I chose the right time to make my move; it just didn’t work out.

After the tournament I was ready to get out, so I met up with Rebecca and Danielle at Big Daddy’s in Soulard. Mardi Gras fever has already struck Soulard. If I ever move away from St. Louis, I’ll definitely miss this town.
