Books:
So I’m nearly done with The Sparrow, unfortunately a day late for the book discussion group. It was the first meeting I’ve missed (I think) and it pained me to do so if for no other reason than missing Adam’s world-famous spaghetti sauce. I’ve just been far too busy to do much reading the past few weeks.

Work:
Work has been one (of several) sources of my busyness (I always want to spell that word, “business” then know better and think it looks silly as “busyness.” Thank goodness for the dictionary applet on my panel). We’re in full-swing with development now: bugs coming in faster than I can fix ‘em, subversion commits flying about, and wishing we had more time to spend on design. When things calm down a bit, or even if they don’t, I want to take the time to write up a coding style guide for UI development and a HIG-like document describing how to interact with the users. I’m seriously having a blast at VistaWiz. Not only am I able to witness the development practices of a startup company evolve, expand, and mature, but I’m able to be a part of it. It’s forcing me to learn and grow at an accelerated rate and am finding I enjoy the responsibility.

The Linux Desktop:
I was excited to hear of the recent talk between the GNOME Foundation and the Mozilla Foundation. We need an answer to Longhorn/Avalon/XAML. Mono is fast approaching 1.0. Will developers flock to Mono and MonoDevelop when they’re ready for “prime time”? What effect will Red Hat’s recent interaction designer hirings have on the usability of GNOME? Does Sun’s right hand know what it’s left hand is doing? Will Novell’s Linux Desktop be KDE, GNOME, or some hybrid that is difficult to imagine at this point? There are lots of questions and for me, at least, about all that’s certain is that the next year will be exciting. Hopefully I’ll have time in the coming months to do more than keep up with the news and ask questions.

Okay, I’m going for a walk…
