Personal: I drove myself to the office today for the first time in three weeks. It’s good to feel somewhat independent. Still can’t put weight on the foot, but I think it’s healing well and won’t require surgery.
Had a pretty good weekend. Escaped the house to the beer gardens for a bit Friday and Saturday evening and last night got to see Ben and Lori’s new house. We have a new party central.
Reading: My friend, Jim, introduced me to Stephen R. Donaldson recently. Although I had heard of him before, I had never read anything until Jim loaned me a book of his short stories. I’ve read Reave the Just and The Killing Stroke so far. I’m not quite ready to say, as others have, that he is the successor to Tolkien, but he does have an amazing imagination his stories leave you wanting more of the same. I’ll definitely have to read more.
Poker: Spent a bit of time yesterday afternoon playing Texas Holdem online. The difference yesterday is that I played with real money. Aside from one really nasty hand, I did well.

Ouch on the poker hand… Pretty much as bad as a Texas Holdem hand can go….
Hope you didn’t lose too much on that hand.

I deposited $50 to play online. I lost close to $30 on that one hand, but have managed to make up most of that money in subsequent hands. But yeah, just a bad-beat.

A word of advice … watch for cheaters on-line. There are lots of people who “play as a team” by using laptops and going to tables together to effectively “steal” money from players by using their cheaters advantage.
If you notice that only one player at the table ever goes against you each hand, it might be time to switch tables because they may be playing you together as a team to steal your money.

I have been keeping an eye out for that. So far I keep winning, though, so I’m not too worried. I’m up $40 now.
