Had an interesting weekend. Friday night I went to a happy hour with some of my former BJC coworkers, followed by karaoke at Carson’s, followed by Blues at BB’s, followed by playing poker at the Casino. I won $1,340 on one hand. No, we weren’t playing for that high of stakes. It was actually $4-$8 limit holdem. But the hand I had was four aces against my friend’s full house aces full of queens. This fit the requirements for the “bad beat jackpot” and my friend won %50 of the jackpot, I won %25, and the rest was split among the other players at our table. It was a happy ending for everyone.

On Saturday I saw Will Smith vs. the Robots and then hung out at Ben’s place. We drank some bourbon and got his DSL modem working. Apparently the modem SBC sent him had a built-in firewall or some such crap and was causing issues with certain sites, so I brought over an extra DSL modem I had. Now he can use his netgear router/firewall and all is right with the world.

Mono: Everyone is asking about Mono. There was an article in InfoWorld which several people I’ve spoken to have read and mentioned to me. We’ve had some informal discussions about possible uses for Mono at our company. I’d really like to use it as the platform upon which to develop a complete server configuration platform. Right now everything is PHP/MySQL with backend shell and Perl scripts. I think we can do better. I’d like to not interact with the database and scripts directly but rather interact with an interface to the backend. We could use this common set of interfaces to write command-line clients, a web frontend, or even native clients for Windows or Linux.
