Today I decided to take lunch away from the office, alone. I picked up a sandwhich and went to Creve Coeur Lake. I think it helped re-energize me for the afternoon.

I spent the afternoon working on interface enhancements to support our Spam-filtering improvements for version 1.2 of the software that powers the v4 edge server. We’re almost there and once this is wrapped up I’ll be shifting to spending a lot of my time designing the new architecture for which we still lack a cool code name. Some feature of this new design include automatic building of /etc configuration files from our business objects, .NET Remoting and Web Services/SOAP interfaces to the business objects, and rich graphical clients which run on Windows and Linux (in addition to command-line and web interfaces). It may well be distributed with components running on the edge server itself and others running on the service cluster. At some point it will likely handle the alerts, upgrades, etc. And it has to scale so that a reseller can manage hundreds of customers from his laptop. I’m working on a proof-of-concept prototype running on Mono to test performance and requirements.

Tonight I saw The Corporation. Good documentary on the problems with Corporate America. Some eye-opening stuff, and it wasn’t all negative.

  1. That’ll be cool stuff to work on, until you try to support the .NET SOAP client, aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggg!!!!!!!!

its a right pain in the arse

  2. I think that the Corporation was a good documentary. It made me almost cry at times. I wish I could say something more intelligent discussion the issues that it brought up, but that’s a lot to discuss in a blog.
