Tonight I played in the first Poker Pub event since I found out about it this weekend. A crazy experience. The first table I was at had 3 or four people who had never played the game of Texas Holdem before. At the next table I was with several seasoned players. I was constantly having to adjust my style based on who was at my table as they kept shifting tables around. I made it to the final table and things really got crazy. First of all it was Monday Night Football and the place was packed with people watching the game and enjoying the drink specials. Our final table was surrounded by onlookers, some who had played in the tournament but were eliminated and lots of others who were there for the football and drinks. I felt like I was in a Vegas Casino. There were well-dressed waitresses buzzing around the table taking drink orders, guys and gals who ran the tournament wearing suits, and then us, the players, who were playing in a tournament that had no entry fee. At any rate, I won the tournament and got a gift certificate for $50 as well as some points towards the tournament of champions which features a prize of a trip to Vegas. The final hand between me and a friendly guy sitting next to me was too easy to play. I was dealt A J. I limped from the small blind and he checked. The flop was A J and a rag. I checked. He went all-in and I called. He had nothing and I won the hand. Pretty straightforward, but I understand why he made the bluff. He just was unlucky that I hit the flop hard.

Anyway, good times, and I’ll definitely be playing in more of these free tournaments this week.
