Got a new phone last night.

I looked at the various phones that T-Mobile offered, read various reviews, and finally decided on the Samsung e715. I had considered a Sidekick II for a while but decided it was too big and bulky for my tastes. And I decided that I didn’t need all of its features and wanted a better camera than the Sidekick II offers. The e715 is about perfect for me. I’ve got all the browsing and messaging I could possibly need in a month. The sound quality and reception on the phone is excellent. The appearance of the phone is slick and somewhat star treky. And while the VGA camera isn’t a replacement for my real digital camera, it’s handy for those moments when I don’t have a real camera with me. The pictures are of a decent quality for a VGA camera phone.

  1. Bah!

The Sidekick II is developed by GNOME hackers! (Well, largely former GNOME hackers - Robey, Ramiro, Mike, Eric and myself from Eazel are here) And the lead UI designer Matias is the co-author of xbill.

Oh, and its free with rebates from Amazon.

One of these days I’ll get around to implementing evolution sync for the hiptop too…

  2. Well that certainly makes it more tempting. :) Ultimately I decided I just wanted a phone. You know…something small that fits nicely in my jeans pocket. But the Sidekick II is definitely impressive. I looked at it longingly at the store fore a while before I walked away.

  3. But you didn’t walk away we were stuck there for an hour, and you got it. It seems pretty sweet, adn the pics aren’t bad. I wonder what they are like in darker areas though.

  4. Obviously the darker the room, the worse the pictures will be, but the camera does have a “flash” which works fairly well.

  5. ASP.NET! ASP.NET!
