It was a good 4-day weekend. Wednesday evening I met up with Chris and Sue at The Famous Bar where we heard Dangerous Kitchen perform.
Slept in on Thanksgiving Day and went over to the family’s place for dinner. Food was delicious, as always, and it was good to see Aunt Ellen in town. My neice has gotten a lot bigger and more vocal.
We had friends over for dessert and a bunch of us played Texas Holdem. Word of advice when playing against beginners: don’t try to bluff or semi-bluff. They will call you no matter what they have because they might get that card they need for the inside straight draw or flush. And they will get it, on the river. After playing cards I went out to Blueberry Hill and had a few drinks with Amanda and Annie.
On Friday night I visited Dressel’s for the first time in maybe a year. I used to frequent that pub and it was good to be back. Stephanie, Alan, and I had a few drinks in the pub above by the fire which almost made the place unbearably hot when wearing a sweater. There was a band playing in the gallery next door. They didn’t sound bad but it took something away from the atmosphere. One of the charms of the pub above is the more subdued aura: typically on a Friday or Saturday in the late Autumn months and throughout Winter the place would be packed, a fire lit, and the music would be from a guy playing piano tunes, taking requests and tips. I hope he returns. Hyfrd!
Saturday night I went to Big Daddy’s in Soulard. Josh was in town from Los Angeles so I met up with him, Amanda, Annie, Natalie, Alyse, and all the rest. Josh called it a night after Big Daddy’s and the males were severely outnumbered by the girls who decided they wanted to go to a gay bar. So we went to The Complex. At least 4 guys made a pass at me. Thankfully the girls did a good job rescuing me.
