Mardi Gras:

Although I spent nearly the entire weekend in Soulard for Mardi Gras, it was a bit more subdued than last year. I mostly stayed on the outskirts and avoided the really huge crowds in the heart of Soulard. Friday night we were at BB’s to celebrate Annie’s birthday. The music was good and the company better.

Saturday a bunch of us hit the Broadway Oyster Bar. I consumed a mound of jambalaya, a bizarre but deliciously spicy dish of rice, shrimp, chicken, sausage, tomatoes, and who knows what else. There was even a crawfish on top. We saw New Orleans band Dash Rip Rock perform with a special appearance by a girl wearing (on occasion) tambourines as a bra. No, I do not have pictures.

Live CD Madness!

Seems like everyone is making a Linux Live CD nowadays. I’m also working on an Ubuntu-based Live CD for work. I burned my first cut today. Some pages and tools that I have found very useful:

  • Instructions on the Ubuntu wiki
  • Tomboy for quick note-taking and documentation of every step I take as I go.
  • gconf-editor search feature for finding keys I need to modify to set defaults

I’d love to hear other tips and tricks people are using to customize their Live CDs.

  1. I see you’re at 9 days of being smoke free. How’s that going for you?

  2. I had a few this weekend. Hard not to smoke at Mardi Gras. :) But I’m back on track now.
