I’m starting to stress about finding an apartment. My lease runs up on March 31st. I’ve looked at some apartments online and physically went to view some in Soulard but haven’t been all that impressed. They weren’t horrible but definitely not worth the money. The number one turn-off was the carpet. Carpet isn’t bad if it’s new, but if it retains the odors and stains of previous tenants’ dogs, cigarettes, and tomato sauce, that’s just not sexy. So my search continues for a nice, reasonably priced 1 or 2 bedroom flat (waiting to hear back from a potential roommate on whether my cat will be a problem for her allergies).
Summary of my dwellings since I moved out of the parental units’ place:
- The Dorm: Outrageously priced. Extremely small. Basically lived with two other guys in the equivalent of a walk-in closet. Also, I suspect one of my roommates may have been insane.
- Laura and Stephanie’s couch: Comfortable. Proximity to jug of wine was convenient. Couldn’t beat the price.
- Etzel: Very affordable. And the gunshots at night added to the ambience.
- Waterman: Old building, ancient appliances. Best part of this place was the location and the gorgeous view from the balcony.

- Plateau: Dogtown rocks. Trying to get three unmarried guys to keep a two-story, three-bedroom house clean doesn’t.

Have you thought of The Hill? It’s a quiet part of the south side. It’s seems like a bit more of a central area for you.
South Hampton and Bevo Mill are also decent neighborhoods…definately place I’ll be looking at soon.

oh btw, on behalf of Stephanie and I, it was a pure pleasure having you dwell on our couch.

Yeah, I’m looking all over. Starting with sites like rent.com and apartments.com. I’m also entertaining the idea of a loft.

Thanks for the link to Soulard/CIN. Once again, I am getting hits from a far ranging spectrum of sources. Sorry you did not find anything to rent that you like in the neighborhood. Of course, if you look today, the ideal place opens up tomorrow. In the meantime, do not forget to check out the Metropolis For-Rent page at http://www.mstl.org/relocating/for-rent.html. I think the rental market may be a little slow, so you should be able to have a decent selection.

Thanks for the link, Clark. I was afraid that given that it seems everyone moves in March/April I’d have trouble finding places, but it seems that there are a ton of flats available.
