I spent a few days in New Orleans last week. This town has all my weaknesses.

Our hotel was a block off Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. We ambulated about and didn’t have to worry about getting a cab the whole time. I’m a big fan of balconies and just about every building in the French Quarter seemed to have at least a small one if not a huge wrap-around. I was told that some buildings don’t even have hallways; to get from one room to another you simply exit the French doors to the balcony and walk around to another set of doors.
We spent quite a bit of time sitting out here
Ah, the food. I’m not sure if there is a bad restaurant in that town. I ate grits and eggs, stuffed crabs and fresh fish, fried oysters, veal marsala, and of course po’ boys. And it was all delicious. The dining may have been the highlight of the trip.

I didn’t do a lot of shopping, but I did purchase some art that I want to frame and hang in my flat. With some of the St. Louis art I have it’ll give my place a nice Mississippi River town feel. Thanks to New Orleans locals Justin Sunseri and Manuel Lora for their emailed suggestions about what to do while down there. I didn’t get to do it all, so I’ll just have to visit again.
