Having thrown away all the old hand-me-down furniture that I’ve been using for the past five years, I’ve been purchasing new items, by and by, and paying for them with my poker winnings. The place is starting to come together. After buying some small items Saturday morning, Ben and I went over to Chris’ place, hopped in his red BMW convertible, and spent the afternoon furniture shopping. By the end of the day I settled on a cream coloured sofa from a contemporary furniture store called Good Works. Now I’m looking for a nice TV stand for my 30″ LCD, a coffee table, dresser, and bed. I think I’m going to have to put in some longer sessions of poker to cover all this.
I also have a lot of projects which involve more time spent than money. I need to frame and hang some artwork I bought in New Orleans, set up my wireless network, and hang some shelves and a neon beer sign. Then maybe I’ll have some time for hacking.
On a completely unrelated note, I saw 21 Grams last night. Yawn. I want my 2 hours back.

Do you play online, or at a bick-and mortar casino? Just curious to find out if there is an online poker place that people really find good.

I list of movies NOT to see:
1. Spanglish
2. 21 Grams
3. We Don’t Live Here Anymore
4. Punch Drunk Love (I realize there will be some argument about this but I prefer Adam Sandler playing “Canteen Boy”)
5. The Day After Tomorrow (i think that’s Wednesday)
6. I Heart Huckabees
7. Be Cool
8. any Ring movie-foriegn or domestic
9. Jerry Maquire (gag)
10. Waynes World II (the first one was better)

Carthik: Occasionally I’ll go to a casino to play, but mostly I play online at pokerroom.com. The reason I picked that site is that they offer a java applet interface, so I can play in Linux. Nearly every other site I’ve looked at only offers a Windows program to play. Although I can’t compare pokerroom to other sites, I find the competition to be fairly easy. There are a lot of maniacs which can be frustrating when they suck out on you, but over the long run, I’ve made quite a bit of money playing on that site.
Laura: I’ll add to your list, “Pearl Harbor”, “Matrix III”, and “The Core”

jamin: what limit do you find to be the most profitable on pokerroom?

yi: You can read an article I wrote a couple months ago for some background, but in a nutshell, I mostly play No-Limit cash games. I play the levels that are appropriate for my bankroll using the general rule of thumb that my bankroll should be 1,500 to 2,000 times the big blind. That’s a pretty conservative rule to follow and you can stretch it a bit at your own risk.
And again, I don’t necessarily follow the rule all the time. Sometimes I’ll play well below that level just to mess around and to play super aggressively. If I only have 25 dollars at risk I can feel more comfortable bluffing a large portion of my stack.
So to summarize, I primarily play no-limit holdem cash games. The higher the big blind the more profit I make, but I try to play within the limits of what my bankroll can sustain since poker is a game where you can lose money on any given day but over the long run, you’ll make money with correct play.
Occasionally I’ll play single or multi-table tournaments, but not that often. The multi table tournaments offer you the really large payouts but the odds of making it to the top money spots are much less. The single table tournaments are perhaps the most solid way to play (very low risk), but I have found the cash games to be more profitable.

Wow, I always wondered who were the people who use beer advertising signs as room decorations. I found you at last!

21 grams?? You really thought it was bad… I thought it was a compelling movie… hmmmm..

Hated it. The chronological jumping was completely unnecessary and didn’t contribute to the film at all, unlike a film like Memento. The story itself was mediocre. The only redeeming thing about the film was the acting which was quality for sure.
