Saturday night I took Lori to Space for dinner. Gravity was present, but the filet mignon was out of this world. Maybe my quitting smoking has made me more fully enjoy the taste of food. Or perhaps it was just the Matrix telling my brain that it was juicy and delicious. I ordered it medium rare and it came out so tender I could cut it with a butter knife. It tasted like it was cooked or marinated in some sort of wine sauce and was covered in shiitake mushrooms. The vegetables were fresh, lightly cooked and slightly firm–no need for butter or sauce to cover up a sordid past.
I don’t order steak all that often, so when I do I like to spend a few extra bucks and really enjoy the experience. The better the steak, the less I want it cooked. Preparing a good steak “well-done” is like taking a fine single-malt scotch and mixing it with Diet Pepsi. The same could be said of pouring A1 all over your steak. If the meat is so bad that you have to make it taste like vinegar and raisins, it’s time to try a different restaurant. I usually avoid steak sauces altogether. If you want something that brings out the flavor, try a glass of wine. Personally, I like Zinfandel (not to be confused with White Zinfandel which to me tastes like under-spiked fruit punch).
After dinner, Lori and I met up with Chris at Boogaloo for some drinks. On the way home we stopped at White Castle. Not quite filet mignon, but for some reason the damn things taste good late at night.
Sunday was wonderfully uneventful. I made pancakes and coffee. We watched Duets.

Ahhh yes space. I love that place. Good choice on dinner, and glad your meal was tasty…

Dude, Duets sucked. Sorry. But Capote rocked. You should have watched that instead.

mmmm….steak….
Good choice on the Zinfandel - that’s one that gets over looked. Probably because it does get confused with the white stuff. Goes good with cigars too, although if you’ve quit smoking (good for you by the way) maybe that’s not something you need!
White Castle on the other hand - well, I know it’s sacriledge but I can’t stand those things!

Princess: I used to go there for lunch and was never really all that impressed, but maybe they’ve changed the menu or maybe their dinner menu is better. Whatever the case, I really enjoyed the meal Saturday.
Laura: I didn’t say Duets was good.
I just like the idea of karaoke hustling. Still need to see Capote.
Ron: I’m sure I’ll still have a cigar from time to time. As for white castles, they are pretty nasty, I agree, but something makes me crave them every now and then late at night. They must lace them with crack or something.

Mmmm….sacrilicious

Thanks for the recommendation on Space - we went this past weekend. I also had the filet - along with super yummy mashed potatoes and homemade mac ‘n cheese - it was fabulous!
