Heaven. Sardines are amazing. They are cheap (75 - 85 cents a can where I shop), have a shelf life of several years, are high in protein, and taste great (if you like fish). I’ve found they are fantastic straight of the can, on top of rye crackers, rice cakes, on a sandwich, etc. When I’m in a hurry to get to work but want to bring my lunch I grab a can of sardines, a piece of fruit, and some crackers, and I’m out the door. If something comes up and I end up going out for lunch…the sardines will wait at my desk until tomorrow.
I’m on a high calorie, high protein diet at the advice of my doctor. I have a high metabolism, a mild case of crohn’s disease (which makes it difficult to gain weight), and am very active and work out. As far as protein is concerned I’m trying to get around 105g per day (coincidentally, I weigh 154 lbs.) Sardines make a great high protein snack in between meals to get me up to that 105 g. A 106g can of sardines has around 16 - 20g of protein.
Alright, I’m getting hungry. I think I’ll open a can right now…

Ahh, proteins. Gotta find new ways to get those. Sardines sound great but I think the taste will get old very soon.

Try some mustard sardines on Ritz crackers. That is my fave way. If your looking for high protein, cube up some extra firm tofu in a stirfry and make a wrap with it. It is not as bad as people make it out to be, you just got to season it good.

Love Sardines. Just ate a can on Melba Toast. I am not on a high protein diet, but I eat a can a day!
