I want to get the word out about an event that my girlfriend’s organization is hosting Saturday October 9th:
Join us for the 2nd Annual Flavor of Success event at our St. Charles office! Taste food and drinks from local restaurants, hear live music, shop the silent auction and mingle with friends!
The evening culminates in a live Dutch auction with all proceeds from the evening benefiting the programs and participants of Connections to Success!
Connections to Success is a non-profit whose mission is to empower determined individuals with a plan and resources to achieve economic self-reliance. Even if you can’t attend the event due to schedule conflicts or proximity, consider buying a ticket or making a donation to support this worthy cause. Thanks!

My girlfriend Amie and I will be heading to Europe at the end of October. I’ve been to Paris, but have never been to Italy, so I’m looking for any suggestions of places in or around Rome, Florence, and Venice that I must see. Without your suggestions, I’ll have to rely on the tourism guides/books.
Thanks in advance…
Update: Looks like I had comments disabled, sorry about that. You should be able to comment now.
Ring Ring from the rather amusing film which I saw with Kelli and her kids this weekend.
With the addition of Twitter, the list of social networking sites I’ve got to update has grown to the point where it’s time-consuming. Enter Ping.fm, a free service which allows you to update multiple social networking sites at once using various interfaces including web, instant message, SMS, and email.

I think it’s time to announce formally that I have a girlfriend. Her name is Kelli and she has managed to break through the walls I’ve put up over the years. She’s brilliant, beautiful, and clever. And today is her birthday.
Here she is singing karaoke with her friend, Jamie, at our karaoke night.

I’m a lucky guy.
Oh yes, I am.

The Rise of the Machines is an interesting op-ed piece in the New York Times about our financial system’s dependence on sophisticated computer systems.
It was easy enough for us humans to understand a stick or a dollar bill when it was backed by something tangible somewhere, but only computers can understand and derive a correlation structure from observed collateralized debt obligation tranche spreads. Which leads us to the next question: Just how much of the world’s financial stability now lies in the “hands” of computerized trading algorithms?

Kelli had VIP tickets to Pointfest so we packed a cooler and enjoyed some bands and people-watching for a few hours.
Then we cruised to Bone’s French Quarter for a night of karaoke, making some new friends along the way.
